Is Cancel Culture “Going Too Far”?
The answer depends on how it is practiced. Holding influential figures accountable for real harm is necessary in any healthy society. However, when accountability becomes indistinguishable from harassment, when context is ignored, or when growth is deemed impossible, cancel culture risks undermining its own moral goals.
A society committed to justice must balance accountability with proportionality, and critique with humanity. Without that balance, cancel culture can shift from empowering the powerless to enforcing ideological conformity—discouraging open conversation and honest mistakes.
Ultimately, the question is not whether celebrities should face consequences, but what kind of culture we want to build: one that punishes endlessly, or one that allows responsibility, repair, and change.
